Sage Wisdom

"Good improvisation communicates harmonic progression melodically. Effective melodies manipulate harmonic content through the use of guide tones and preparatory gravity notes, masterfully woven in systematic tension, release, and transparent harmonic definition."

November 11, 2007 | JP Charles new website

This just in from Brazilian friend and world-class luthier, Jean Paul Charles, a newly revamped website. We mentioned him earlier this year, the connection with jazz mandolin innovator Michael Lampert who speaks highly of Charles' work.

Of particular interest around here is his signature hollow-body electric 4- and 5-string mandolins, but he is also known throughout the world for his native bandolims. He's certainly got the access to the wood, as well as a thriving South American musical environment to help him produce the classic indigenous Choro tone.
